Genesis 37:1-11
Part of growing is figuring out who you are—both in connection with your family and as your own person. That process can bring up a lot of emotions, no matter what your family situation looks like on the outside. The truth is, no family is perfect. Families don’t always look the same, and sometimes they aren’t made up of people related by blood. For some, family may not even feel like a safe place. This lesson isn’t about pretending things are easy or ideal. It’s about exploring how love can still show up—even in small, quiet, or limited ways —when things are complicated.
DAILY CHALLENGE
Choose one or more of these Daily Challenges to do this week.
• Who’s the hardest person for you to love in your family? Write that person’s name on a sticky note, stick it to your mirror or another place you’ll see a few times a day, and pray for them each time you pass by.
• If you have a younger sibling, spend two hours this week playing or hanging out with them, letting your sibling choose how you spend your time together.
• Write one or both of your parents (or parental figures) a letter telling them what you admire about them.
FAITH JOURNAL
What are some tangible ways to show love to your family?
TALK WITH YOUR FAMILY
Read Ephesians 6:1-4 with your family, and discuss these questions:
• What role do you play in the commands in these verses?
• In what ways do you think you could show more love by honoring these commands?
• How does family love look different depending on what role you have?
• What’s something that makes you feel really loved?
Practice love right now—say or do something nice for the person to your right.
