• Why was deceitfulness so serious in this situation?

Impostors are rough because their actions can mislead people into believing in inaccurate details about someone. Imagine the biggest lie someone could say about you. Something that would leave you astonished and offended. That was what was happening to the name of God through Bar-Jesus in this story. His actions were leading people away from the true character of God. It’s so serious because that would cause God to seem sneaky and manipulative instead of a God of kindness, love, and grace. We face the temptation to be like this impostor when our Christianity leads us to be exclusive and manipulative instead of reflecting Christ’s character. Who do you know Jesus to be? Try to let those traits be your definition of Christianity.
