John 8:31-32
• How does truth make you free?
Though there are times when lying can postpone suffering, when we hold onto a lie, weight begins to pile onto our shoulders. It begins to alter our reality because we begin to believe our lies or bury them deep so that we can go about our day-to day lives. But no matter how deep we try to bury a lie or how much we try to convince ourselves that they are true, the burden of a lie can still rest on us. When we choose to be honest, we can live without that burden, and that is freeing. Now, there’s a difference between being honest and being unnecessarily blunt to people. Being honest does not mean to be rude or mean. Being honest means valuing truth instead of choosing to deny truth for your own comfort. Lying can be easy, but God calls us to lean into being honest.
