• What do you think it means that the Spirit is a deposit? What is to come?

Have you ever put down a deposit? It’s money you give up front to hold your place, reserve something, or show that you’re serious? A deposit is like a promise: this isn’t the end. More is coming.

Paul uses that idea to describe the Holy Spirit. He calls the Spirit a deposit: a guarantee of what God has promised for the future.

That means when God gives us the Spirit, it’s a sign that God is already at work in us now, and that God’s promises will one day be fully complete.

We don’t see everything yet. Life isn’t perfect. But God’s presence with us now is proof that God isn’t finished, and that what’s ahead is good.
