Diminutive: small or miniature

In other words: mini!

Used in a sentence: Even though she was tall, her little brother gave her a diminutive nickname that made her laugh.

God and Job are having a conversation in today’s passage. When you initially read the dialogue, what tone do you detect? It may initially read as sarcastic, condescending, or even taunting, on God’s part—a bit of a Who do you think you are? attitude. But God isn’t shaming Job. The facts God cites are meant to comfort Job. Sometimes, it’s helpful to remember how diminutive we are! We don’t have to call the shots or fight all the big battles. Instead, our ally is the one whose “voice [is like] thunder,” who has been “adorn[ed] in glory and splendor,” who can bury [the wicked] in the dust.”

It’s a privilege to be so small when we are protected by the One who is bigger than it all.
