• What is special about these commands?

These commands give us a sample of what it’s like to be in community with God, something that we can look forward to doing for eternity. Through these things—refreshed hearts, wisdom, righteousness, and joy—we get a glimpse of life with God, and yet we are invited to experience that now. When we talk about eternity, we can’t forget about the journey, knowing that God moves in that journey. God does not just say, “One day you’ll experience the love I have for you,” God is saying, “Experience the love I have for you now and know that it will endure for the rest of time, becoming clearer in eternity.” The superstore Costco is really cool because you get samples, and it makes you want to go make a purchase of what you tasted. What God offers isn’t just a sample that leads you into a transaction; God offers a spark that ignites into something beautiful that continues to grow forever.
