Jesus Feeds Thousands

Bible Point

God meets our needs.

Key Verse “And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).

Big Picture

God knows what’s on our hearts and will provide for us.

Jesus Feeds Thousands

John 6:1-15

This week, we will look deeper at our desires and learn that God cares about what we care about. Even when we do not understand, God sees our hearts and responds with wisdom and love. As we go through these devotionals, we can grow in trust, knowing that God is present and actively at work in our lives.

TRY THIS

Discuss a time in your family when God provided the answer to a great need. This may well have been before you were even born—or it could’ve been last week. Talk about some of the feelings your parents experienced. Ask them how they were able to trust in God’s provision. Ask them what they learned from the situation. Ask them if that trial made it easier to trust that God would provide in future situations.

DAILY CHALLENGE

• FOR an entire day, write down every time you feel that you “want” something. At the end of the day, consider whether each of the things is a need or a want, and write that word beside each item. Then take your list to God in prayer and ask for guidance in knowing the difference between needs and wants.

• VOLUNTEER to help serve a meal at a shelter for people who are experiencing homelessness—consider asking your family to help you. Consider how God has met your needs and how God is meeting the needs of those you’re serving.

• READ John 6:1-15 and Philippians 4:19. Think about a situation that doesn’t seem to have a reasonable solution right now—a broken friendship, struggles with your parents or a sibling, or a test at school. Think about how Philip and Jesus viewed the crowd—one saw a problem, and the other saw an opportunity. Talk with God about your situation. Ask God to provide exactly what you need, and then watch for God’s leading and answers.
