(Answer the question/s below in your app notes)

• What does this verse say to you about how to respond in tough times?

In ancient Egypt, people believed that a person’s spirit continued living after death. They thought each person had different spiritual parts, especially the ka (life force) and the ba (personality or soul). Because they believed the spirit lived on, Egyptians mummified bodies to preserve them for the afterlife. They would bury their loved ones with food, tools, jewelry, and even pets, believing the spirit would need these things later. The idea was that after death, the soul would travel to the afterlife and be judged. If the person had lived well, their spirit could continue living in a peaceful eternal life.

The Bible presents a different picture of life and death, teaching that life comes from God himself: “The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life.” This verse reminds us that life itself comes from God. It isn’t just our bodies that make us alive. God’s breath and power are what give us life in the first place. So when we think about where life comes from, the answer isn’t found in tombs or treasures. It’s found in the God who gives us breath and makes us alive.
