READ: Psalm 19:7-11
(Answer the question/s below in your app notes)
• Are the commands in this passage necessary for eternal life? Why or why not? Of what importance are they in your life?
Let’s play a game. I’m going to describe something using a few adjectives, and you have to guess what I’m talking about. Ready?
Perfect.
Trustworthy.
Right.
Radiant.
Pure.
Precious.
Sweet.
What are you thinking? A puppy? A best friend? A favorite dessert?
Surprisingly, Psalm 19 uses all of these words to describe God’s law. Wait, the law? Like, rules? Yep.
I know what you’re thinking. Rules don’t usually sound exciting or beautiful. But the author of Psalm 19 understood something important: God’s commands are good because they help lead us toward the best kind of life.
Imagine a world with no rules at all. No traffic laws, no rules in sports, no expectations to treat people kindly or fairly. Life would get chaotic pretty quickly. Rules can actually protect people and help communities thrive.
God’s laws work the same way. They aren’t there to ruin our fun; they’re there to help us love people well, make wise choices, and stay close to God. That’s why the psalm says God’s commands are sweeter than honey and more precious than gold.
So the next time you hear the word “rules,” remember this: God’s guidance comes from a God who loves you deeply.
