Jesus Explains Eternal Life to Nicodemus

Bible Point

Jesus gives us eternal life.

Key Verse

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

Big Picture

Develop a relationship with Jesus that will last for eternity.

Jesus Explains Eternal Life to Nicodemus

John 3:1-17

In this week’s Bible passage, Nicodemus gets confused by a metaphor Jesus uses. Jesus says he must be “born again,” which can also mean “born from above.” Nicodemus takes it literally and struggles to understand how that could happen. This week, we will explore what Jesus meant and why it matters. As we go through these devotionals, we will see that while some of Jesus’ words are figurative, the promise of eternal life is real.

DAILY CHALLENGE

• TELL somebody about the eternal life Jesus offers each one of us. Share with that person how knowing you have eternal life in Jesus has affected your own life.

• INVITE a friend to study Jesus’ life with you. Read through the Gospel of John together, and write down your observations and questions as you study together. Help your friend see the unique claims Jesus makes.

• COME up with more metaphors that will help you understand eternal life. Talk to God about them and ask God to help you receive new life today, and be prepared for eternal life when Jesus returns.

TRY THIS

As a family, identify which objects around your house remind you of heaven and why. Discuss how your family can help you prepare for eternal life and for heaven.
