• Based on how you treat others, how are you bearing God’s name?

Imagine showing up to the first day of school and sitting down at your desk. Your notebook is out, pencil is sharpened, and you’re ready to begin the extraordinary experience of education! You’re sitting with three other people, who introduce themselves to you in order. There’s Gemma Johnson on your right, who is talkative and charming. There’s Liam Martinez, who seems friendly and easygoing, with dark hair and a lightning smile. Then, the student on your left introduces himself as Max Disney. You ask, Like Walt Disney? as a joke, and he replies, sincerely, Yeah. That’s my great-great-grandpa.

Most likely, you’d see him a little differently after that interaction, right? You’d probably analyze his behavior, his mannerisms, his personality, a little more closely. You’d pay more attention to him from that point forward. Why? Because of his name.

When the Bible says that we bear the name of God, it’s no small responsibility. Bearing the name of someone so grand, so powerful, so extraordinary…it can be a lot of pressure! But we don’t carry God’s name to impress others. We carry it so we can reflect God’s character. God’s kindness. God’s patience. God’s compassion. God’s love.

God doesn’t ask us to be perfect; just to represent the name well. And every day, in big ways and small ones, we get the chance to live in a way that honors the name we carry.
