• What intentions did God have for giving us his commandments?

I once overheard a parent laugh and say, “I never realized how often I say ‘Be careful’ until I had kids.” Parents say it about big things (crossing the street) and little things (carrying a plate or climbing too fast).

At first, it sounds like fear. But really, it’s love. When Deuteronomy says to “be careful to obey,” it’s not because God is waiting for us to mess up. It’s because God cares deeply about how we live. God’s commandments aren’t about control. They’re about care. They teach us how to live thoughtfully, love well, and grow into people of integrity.

We don’t become people of character by accident. It takes intention, daily choices, and learning to live with care.
