The Psalmist writes, “Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts. They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty… They celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness.”

It’s clear: God’s reputation is extraordinary. The enthusiasm of the speaker is evidence in itself, but it’s almost as if the author is saying, “Don’t believe me? Ask my grandma! Or my great-nephew!” All the generations are talking about the marvelous Yahweh, who is known for redemption, victory, and grace. The accolades are endless, but they are also well-deserved. The people saying all of these things know God, and know these things to be true. God’s “mighty acts” are what saved the Hebrews from slavery in Egypt. God’s “abundant goodness” is what saved Esther’s people from the evil Haman. These accolades aren’t exaggerated or empty compliments. They come from real experiences with a faithful God.
