TUESDAY
Philippians 2:1-5
• How is Jesus a model for us?
In Philippians 2, Paul advises us to “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.”
Be honest. Can you imagine doing nothing for selfish reasons? Even on my best days, I have selfish intentions. On my worst days, I’m straightup conceited. I don’t know about you, but to completely master selflessness feels almost impossible.
Maybe that’s because it is impossible. I say this not to discourage you, but to encourage you! Imagine getting up every day and telling yourself you’re going to fly if you just try hard enough. What would you be every single day you jump off the kitchen counter and gravity conquers you, day after day? Disappointed! (And injured. Don’t do that.) Realistic expectations are a part of our walk with God too. It’s why Jesus is the model, not our peer, when it comes to perfection. Jesus was perfect, so we imitate his character. Even though it is impossible to ever be exactly like Jesus, we can try every day to get just a little bit closer.
