FRIDAY
Romans 15:5-6
• Why is unity with other Christians such an important part of following Jesus?
It’s a little comical to me that I live in a country called “The United States.” United? We seem to disagree on just about everything! Even state to state, ideologies are drastically different, and cultures can define almost every part of daily life. This reality is broadcast on an even larger platform during any election season. We disagree on so much.
And yet, we are united.
Paul begs the church of Rome to also be united, but he mentions this in the context of something very specific. Paul says, “May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” What we can’t miss here is that true unity is only achieved through the “same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had.” This demands that we thoughtfully consider what kind of attitude Jesus had, as this is the first step in achieving true unity. To see each other as Jesus saw us. This week, reflect on the characteristics of Jesus that you think are necessary to achieve unity.
