READ: Matthew 6:25-27

• What do you learn in these verses about the way God takes care of us?

“Dogs aren’t just cuddly and playful all the time, you know.” My dad cautioned me, his eyebrows raising in the rearview mirror of the van. “They’re a lot of work.”

“I know, Daddy,” I said. “I’ll take care of them, though, I promise!”

“Yes, we promise, Daddy!” My little sister echoed.

The next week, we took home a sweet little cotton ball of a dog, Skipper. After the fifth or sixth day of waking up to his whines at 5:00 a.m., notifying us that it was time for him to be let outside, I realized my dad was right: dogs were a lot of work.

God promises to take care of us in the same way that creation is always taken care of: not reluctantly, not out of obligation, but with steady, faithful love. If we’re willing to wake up for a whining puppy, how much more willing is God to show up for us?
