DEVOTIONAL:

In Bible times, people lived very differently than we do now. Families often chose who their children would marry, and sometimes fathers made special agreements when their daughters got married. When Jacob meets Laban’s daughters, Leah and Rachel, he falls in love with Rachel. So he asks Laban if he can work for him for seven years in exchange for marrying Rachel. Have you been alive for seven years yet? It’s a long time! But Jacob offered to work for a whole seven years because of how much he loved Rachel. Jacob’s story reminds us that real love is patient, and that God is always at work in our lives, even when we have to wait.

God, please help me to work hard in everything I do, like Jacob did. Amen.
